Five Dead in Three Days Due to Unauthorized Building Collapse in Kenya
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] In Kenya, a building collapse has resulted in five deaths over three days.
On the 17th (local time), local media reported that authorities stated a six-story building under construction in the Ruaka area of Kiambu County, on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya's capital, collapsed and buried a nearby residential area, killing two people. Three members of a family were rescued from another house next to the collapsed building and were transported to a nearby hospital.
The county fire department said, "It is estimated that there are more people buried, and we are conducting rescue operations in cooperation with the Red Cross and military police." The collapsed building was reportedly constructed without official permission.
