NBS "President Yoon's Approval Rating Drops 2%p to 29%, Back in the 20% Range"
Itaewon Disaster National Investigation 55% Support
65% Find MBC Exclusive Flight Passenger Exclusion Inappropriate
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] President Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating for his administration has fallen back to the 20% range. When examined by generation and region, only those aged 70 and above and the Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK) region showed positive approval ratings surpassing negative evaluations.
According to the National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted by four media organizations?Embrain Public, K-stat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research?from the 14th to the 16th, surveying 1,007 men and women aged 18 and older nationwide via telephone interviews, with a biweekly regular survey method, 29% responded that President Yoon is managing state affairs well, while 62% said he is doing poorly. In the NBS survey, President Yoon's positive evaluation of state management rose from 29% in the first week of October to 31% in the third week of October, maintained at the same level until the first week of November, but has now dropped by 2 percentage points. Negative evaluations increased by 2 percentage points compared to the previous survey.
By generation, the approval ratings were: 20s (positive 24%, negative 62%), 30s (positive 17%, negative 73%), 40s (positive 12%, negative 85%), 50s (positive 29%, negative 66%), 60s (positive 45%, negative 49%), and 70s (positive 53%, negative 33%). Negative evaluations exceeded positive ones in all generations except those in their 70s.
Regionally, negative evaluations outnumbered positive ones in most areas, except in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, where positive evaluations (57%) surpassed negative evaluations (32%).
Regarding trust in President Yoon's administration, 33% responded that they trust it, a 2 percentage point decrease from the previous survey. Those who do not trust it increased by 2 percentage points to 62%.
Regarding the Itaewon tragedy (10·29 tragedy), 55% of respondents said a state investigation is necessary, while 41% said it is unnecessary. On the disclosure of the victim list, 45% believed disclosure is natural, whereas 49% viewed it as a politically motivated claim. Regarding the exclusion of an MBC reporter from boarding the presidential aircraft, 65% considered it an inappropriate measure, while 28% saw it as an unavoidable step to prevent distorted and biased reporting.
