[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Lotte Mart is strengthening its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management in line with 'Green Consumption Week.'
On the 17th, Lotte Mart announced that its private brand (PB) products 'Only Price Mineral Water Eco (Only Price Mineral Water ECO)' 2ℓ 6-pack and 500㎖ 20-pack have obtained the 'Environmental Product Declaration Certification.'
The Environmental Product Declaration Certification is a system overseen by the Ministry of Environment that quantitatively indicates the environmental impact throughout the entire process of a product or service, including raw material extraction, production, transportation and distribution, use, and disposal. It aims to provide consumers with environmental impact information and promote continuous market-driven environmental improvements. The environmental impact categories include seven factors such as carbon footprint, ozone layer impact, and acid rain.
Lotte Mart stated, "As part of strengthening ESG management, we pursued this certification to increase customer trust in eco-friendly PB products and to activate green consumption," adding, "We will continue to expand eco-friendly PB products and obtain Environmental Product Declaration Certifications."
The Lotte Mart bottled water PB certified this time is characterized by the removal of vinyl labels, reducing plastic waste and enhancing recycling convenience to aid resource circulation. Lotte Mart expects that the launch of this label-free bottled water will reduce plastic usage by approximately 0.9 tons annually.
Meanwhile, to mark Green Consumption Week, Lotte Mart is holding an event under the theme 'Green Lion in November' until the 30th of this month. This event is available to L.POINT members at all Lotte Mart stores except warehouse-type stores, offering an additional 5% L.POINT accumulation benefit when purchasing eco-friendly products worth 10,000 KRW or more. Eligible products for additional points include those certified by the Ministry of Environment, such as environmental labels and low-carbon certifications.
Since 2011, Lotte Mart has operated a Green Card system that provides about 5% Eco Money points accumulation benefits when purchasing eco-friendly products with the Green Card to promote green consumption.
