Incheon City Presents Smart City Vision on International Stage... Participates in 'Smart City Expo World Congress'

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City, a domestic leader in smart cities and certified by the government as a national smart city, shared its future vision and policies at the world's largest smart city international event.
On the 15th (local time), Incheon City participated in the 11th Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) held in Barcelona, Spain.
Since 2011, the SCEWC, held every November, is the world's largest smart city international event and a battleground for smart cities worldwide.
Government officials, city representatives, research institutions, and companies in the smart city sector from around the world gather in one place to explore smart infrastructure, next-generation mobility technologies, and future development plans, including digital transformation, urban environment, mobility, and shared cities.
This year's event is held over three days until the 17th, with participation from over 700 cities across more than 140 countries. More than 350 city leaders and internationally renowned figures conduct 110 sessions of discussions.
Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok participated in the governance session of the SCEWC upon official invitation from the event organizers.
Mayor Yoo exchanged views on the role of governments and cities in sharing the future society under the theme "Sharing Future Society through Collaborative Governance" with economists and regional experts attending from Europe and Latin America.
He introduced cases of communication with citizens and civic groups in Incheon's decision-making processes and emphasized the roles and responsibilities of local governments and the global community in enhancing urban safety using smart technologies.
Before the discussion, Mayor Yoo attended the opening ceremony and toured the smart city promotional booths at the expo exhibition hall, guided by officials from sister and friendly cities such as Tel Aviv, Israel, and Yokohama, Japan, as well as representatives from global companies.
He then met with officials from the German Trade and Investment Agency and the Catalonia Trade and Investment Agency of Spain to learn about the latest smart technologies.
