Over 10 Million Won in Taxes Unpaid for Over a Year... Gyeongnam Province Publishes List of 655 High-Amount and Habitual Tax Delinquents
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangnam-do disclosed the list of high-amount and habitual defaulters on local taxes, local administrative sanctions, and charges for 2022 on the 16th.
The list was announced at 9 a.m. on the same day through the Gyeongnam provincial government and city/county websites, public notices, and the local tax internet payment system, WETAX.
The "High-Amount and Habitual Defaulter List Disclosure System" is an administrative sanction aimed at encouraging voluntary payment by disclosing the personal information of defaulters and fostering a mature taxpaying culture throughout society.
The disclosed information includes the defaulter's name, business name (corporate name), age, address, and amount owed; in the case of local taxes, the representative of the corporation is also disclosed.
This time, the disclosure targets include 584 local tax defaulters and 71 local administrative sanctions and charges defaulters, totaling 655 individuals.
Among them, 424 are individuals who failed to pay a total of 17 billion KRW, and 160 corporations owe 6.6 billion KRW, making the total outstanding amount 23.6 billion KRW.
These are those who have had an outstanding amount of 10 million KRW or more for over one year as of January 1 this year, and the list was finalized through deliberation by the Gyeongsangnam-do Local Tax Deliberation Committee in October.
Defaulters who reduced their outstanding amount to less than 10 million KRW through payment, paid more than 50% of the amount owed, deceased individuals, or those with pending appeals were excluded from the public list.
Gyeongsangnam-do and 18 cities/counties sent prior notification letters to the disclosure targets in March and provided a six-month period to submit explanatory materials; during this period, 218 defaulters voluntarily paid 4.9 billion KRW.
