[Special Stock] Asiana Airlines Weakens Due to Additional Time Required for Merger Review in the US
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] As the corporate merger review between Korean Air and Asiana Airlines is underway in the United States and news emerges that it will take time until the results are announced, Asiana Airlines is showing weakness.
As of 9:28 a.m. on the 16th, Asiana Airlines was trading at 12,250 KRW, down 2.00% (250 KRW) from the previous trading day. Korean Air recorded a decline of 0.57% (150 KRW) to 26,000 KRW.
Korean Air announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the U.S. competition authority, has decided to continue the corporate merger review. Since October, the DOJ has conducted interviews with Korean Air executives and staff regarding the main review of the merger. Additionally, they reviewed the post-merger remedies proposed by the company.
