Genesis Unveils First Convertible Concept Car
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Genesis unveiled the concept car ‘X Convertible’ on the 15th (local time) in California, USA. It is the third model in the X concept series and the brand’s first convertible concept. Like the X revealed last year and the X Speedium Coupe introduced in April this year, it showcases the design direction of upcoming new models.
The company explained that they aimed to express a ‘driving experience in harmony with the natural environment’ by utilizing the characteristics of a convertible with a retractable roof. Luke Donckerwolke, Vice President of Genesis, said, "We wanted to embody Genesis’s commitment to actively reflecting customer needs through a design focused on the joy of driving and sensory experience."
A hardtop moonroof was applied. This is a glass panel on the roof that allows sunlight or moonlight to enter the car interior and create a sense of openness even when the convertible’s hardtop is closed.
The use of colors reflecting Korean aesthetics and sentiment in both the interior and exterior is also notable. The interior features Giwa Navy, inspired by the roof tiles of traditional Korean houses, and Dancheong Orange, derived from the traditional Korean decorative coloring technique called dancheong used on wooden buildings. The exterior is said to be inspired by the elegance of cranes.
The sound architecture was designed in collaboration with Yu Guk-il, a master craftsman from Metal Sound Design, a high-performance sound system specialist company. It will be exhibited at the LA Auto Show opening on the 18th.
