Son Heung-min (Tottenham), captain of the national soccer team, will wear the number 7 jersey again at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
On the 15th, the Korea Football Association announced the jersey numbers of the twenty-six players participating in the Qatar World Cup finals. Son Heung-min was assigned number 7, the same number he wears at Tottenham. In his first World Cup in 2014 Brazil, he wore number 9, yielding number 7 to senior player Kim Bo-kyung (Jeonbuk). He started wearing number 7 from the 2015 AFC Asian Cup and maintained it during the 2018 Russia World Cup as well.
The number 7 jersey is usually given to the team's ace or a player who plays a pivotal role in the tactics. Son Heung-min is currently recovering from surgery for an orbital fracture injury. He plans to enter Doha, Qatar, wearing a mask specially made by Tottenham.
Lee Kang-in (Mallorca), who joined the squad dramatically, will wear number 18. Kim Min-jae (Napoli), a key defender, was assigned number 4, and forward Hwang Ui-jo (Olympiacos) received number 16. Number 10 goes to Lee Jae-sung (Mainz), number 9 to Cho Gue-sung (Jeonbuk), number 11 to Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton), and number 3 to Kim Jin-su (Jeonbuk).
