Let's Travel Abroad to the Birthplace of Beer!
The Flower of Travel is Beer
After a long and difficult time, the skies have finally opened. With the lifting of mandatory self-quarantine and PCR testing upon entering Korea, many people are heading to Incheon Airport. One thing that cannot be missed in an exciting trip is food. Let’s not forget that what I really want to talk about here is alcohol! So, we have prepared information about which countries the imported beers we commonly enjoy come from. If you are planning an overseas trip, why not head to the homeland of beer!
Heineken - Netherlands
Heineken, established in 1873, is a pale lager loved worldwide. Its headquarters are located in the Netherlands, and when traveling to Amsterdam, visiting the Heineken Brewery is a must. You can see the beer-making process and enjoy tastings. Of course, beer is always available, so after the tour, you can quench your thirst with a cold one. Especially, you must try the local favorite snack, fries. Called patat or patat frites, the slightly bitter taste of Heineken pairs perfectly with the savory and mild fries.
Asahi & Sapporo - Japan
Asahi has a brewery in Fukuoka, and Sapporo has one in Sapporo. Japan, both near and far, is known for its diverse cuisine, so much so that many say they go there “to eat.” From ramen to tempura and sushi, it’s hard to pick just one main dish. Both Asahi and Sapporo beers have a strong carbonation, making them great for pairing with any food. Especially, you cannot miss out on nama biru (draft beer) when traveling in Japan. Don’t miss the chance to taste Asahi or Sapporo draft beer!
Hoegaarden & Stella Artois - Belgium
Hoegaarden is an authentic Belgian wheat beer known for its smoothness and fragrant notes from orange peel and coriander seeds. It offers a wide range of options including rose, pear, and 0.0 (zero alcohol). Another representative Belgian beer is Stella Artois (hereafter Stella). Stella is a classic Belgian pilsner lager that is refreshing, clean, and highly carbonated. It is especially a great beer to prepare for Christmas, as Stella means “star,” a symbol of Christmas.
Tiger - Singapore
Tiger beer is commonly found throughout Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. While it is most commonly seen in Southeast Asia and might be thought of as originating from Singapore, it is actually produced by Heineken Asia Pacific, a joint venture between the Netherlands’ Heineken and Singapore’s Fraser and Neave. As Southeast Asia is a seafood paradise, Tiger pairs well with various seafood dishes, as well as sweet fruits like mango and mangosteen, which adds to its charm.
