On the 14th, Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, ordered inspections on winter fire, cold wave, snow removal measures, and hazardous gas leaks at the meeting of heads of departments and bureaus.
Governor Park said, “Gyeongnam, where it does not snow much, is vulnerable to heavy snowfall,” and instructed, “Prepare countermeasures in advance before winter comes and check if there are areas to cooperate with cities and counties.”
He also requested the preparation of protection measures for the safety and warmth of vulnerable groups during winter.
Park, who decided to freeze the number of public officials at the current level in August, right after the launch of the 8th elected administration, pointed out the recent issue of increasing public officials in the province.
He said, “Hundreds of public officials have been increased every year even though it is not absolutely necessary, and some technical positions are rather vacant,” and urged, “Let’s operate organizations and personnel efficiently through meticulous personnel management.”
He also mentioned recent internal unpleasant incidents such as workplace harassment and sexual harassment that arose in the secretariat along with the recent performance of Gyeongnam FC.
Governor Park said, “Gyeongnam FC should become a club loved by the residents,” and added, “Since a large budget is being invested, if there are problems, we must boldly reform and prepare reform plans.”
Regarding the diversification of water intake sources from the Nakdong River, he repeatedly emphasized that the consent of residents in the intake areas must be a prerequisite, and stressed, “The province needs to actively communicate with residents and provide sufficient explanations.”
He ordered a comprehensive review of youth policies that had been promoted only formally or as centers created for a few positions.
He added, “Discover and implement policies that practically help young people, such as support for public transportation costs.”
Regarding the successive overseas orders of nuclear power plants and defense industry companies in the province, he said, “The province and related organizations should jointly form a provisional Export Strategy Promotion Team to discuss support measures for related companies and ways to revitalize exports.”
Governor Park reiterated the importance of actively securing national funds and proposing current issues to the government and the National Assembly.
“Instead of each city and county acting separately, cities and counties should dispatch personnel to the Gyeongnam Province Seoul Sejong Headquarters or share spaces, so that the province and cities and counties can join forces,” he said.
