Disclosure of Pro-Democracy Media Victims... Joo Ho-young Says "Families Do Not Want It"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized the necessity of disclosing the list of victims of the Itaewon accident, while a pro-Democratic Party media outlet sparked controversy by releasing the list without the consent of the bereaved families. The ruling party criticized, saying, "If there is legal responsibility, it must be borne."
On the morning of the 14th, Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, said to reporters after a meeting with floor leaders of both parties, "Most of the bereaved families do not want the (victim list) to be disclosed, so there will likely be controversy over who disclosed it."
'Citizen Media Mindeulle,' a pro-Democratic Party media outlet involving former Roh Moo-hyun Foundation director Yoo Si-min, collaborated with 'Citizen Media The Tam-sa,' which raised the 'Cheongdam-dong drinking party suspicion,' to disclose the list of victims of the Itaewon accident without the consent of the bereaved families that morning.
Floor leader Joo said, "Isn't the list of Gwangju meritorious persons also not disclosed?" He added, "There is a view that those trying to gather the bereaved families for political purposes did this, and while we will look into it, if there is legal responsibility, I think it must be borne."
Meanwhile, on the same day, the ruling and opposition parties held a floor leaders' meeting to discuss the national investigation into the Itaewon accident and budget-related matters but failed to reach an agreement. Floor leader Joo said, "They requested cooperation for budget passage within the legal deadline, and we will continue to communicate and exchange opinions."
