Improving Efficiency with Checklists... Awards Ceremony for Building Management Inspection Competition
On the 15th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Infrastructure Safety & Technology Corporation announced on the 14th that an awards ceremony for six outstanding building management inspection organizations will be held at the Building Space Research Institute.
Since 2020, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has been hosting a competition for excellent building management inspection organizations to promote the early establishment of the building management inspection system through the discovery and dissemination of excellent building management inspection technologies and cases, and to induce the development of related industries.
The 2022 competition evaluated about 1,000 cases of regular building management inspections from 2021, submitted through an open call, based on the thoroughness of inspections, distinctiveness of inspection technologies, appropriateness, dissemination and utilization, and future value.
After the first round of inspection report review and the second round of presentation evaluation, six outstanding inspection cases were selected, including the grand prize (Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award) (1 grand prize, 2 excellence awards, 3 encouragement awards).
The grand prize (Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award) was awarded to 'Woori ENG Architects Office Co., Ltd.'. They received high praise for strengthening communication to build trust with managers, providing and having checklists prepared in advance to improve inspection efficiency and encourage manager participation, and producing their own inspection manual to enhance inspection quality.
Two inspection cases were selected for the excellence award (Korea Infrastructure Safety & Technology Corporation President Award).
'X Plus Architects Office Co., Ltd.' was highly evaluated for establishing an inspection route plan during preliminary review to minimize re-movements caused by omitted items during on-site inspections, thereby improving inspection efficiency and economic feasibility. They also shared building status and inspection results in advance with managers and local governments and proposed concrete improvement plans for maintenance, demonstrating efforts to prepare substantial inspection reports.
'Woori Engineering Architects Office Co., Ltd.' attracted attention for raising the level of inspection technology by using various equipment such as drones and thermal cameras to effectively inspect building structural safety and energy performance.
Additionally, the encouragement awards (Korea Infrastructure Safety & Technology Corporation President Award) were given to 'W Structure Engineering Office Co., Ltd.', 'Acorn Architects Office Co., Ltd.', and 'Myeongseung SA Architects Office' for sharing excellent cases aimed at substantial inspections.
The awarded organizations will receive certificates and prize money (3 million KRW for the grand prize, totaling 10 million KRW), and when local governments designate inspection organizations according to the 'Building Management Act' and 'Building Management Inspection Guidelines,' they will be given priority designation.
