Lee Su-jin, the Democratic Party floor spokesperson, said in a statement, "Today marks the 52nd anniversary of Jeon Tae-il’s sacrifice demanding compliance with the Labor Standards Act," adding, "The cry from that day in 1970 still resonates deeply with workers living today."
The spokesperson stated, "There are still countless workers who are not covered by the Labor Standards Act," and "The outdated Labor Standards Act does not fully protect workers’ lives. It is still a world where workers have to die while working."
He said, "We need labor laws that can protect all working people," and added, "We must hold the real bosses fully accountable and prevent the bomb of provisional seizure for damages that strangles workers."
This expresses the intention to amend Article 2 of the Labor Union Act to expand the definition of workers and recognize the primary contractor’s status as an employer, and to amend Article 3 of the Labor Union Act to limit damages claims against labor unions during strikes.
