View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Jeong Woo-taek, a five-term member of the People Power Party, was officially elected as the ruling party's Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly for the second half of the 21st National Assembly.
On the 10th, Jeong was elected Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly in the by-election held during the plenary session of the National Assembly, receiving 199 out of 227 total votes.
Jeong is expected to serve as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly until the end of the 21st National Assembly in late May 2024, including the remaining term of Deputy Speaker Jeong Jin-seok, who resigned on the same day (until the end of December).

In his acceptance speech, Deputy Speaker Jeong stated, "I will strive to create a National Assembly where cooperation and consensus are achieved through dialogue and communication, rather than unilateral dominance by the majority party."
