Co-hosted with Seoul Special City Children's Hospital
'Creativity and Healing in Art, a 10-Year Story'
[Asia Economy Reporter Sunmi Park] The Samsung Welfare Foundation and Seoul Metropolitan Children’s Hospital announced on the 9th that they will jointly hold the children and youth art therapy exhibition “Creativity and Healing in Art: A 10-Year Story” until the 20th on the first floor of the Samsung Children’s Education and Culture Center.
This exhibition introduces artworks created by children and adolescents with developmental disabilities through an art therapy program that helps them express themselves and communicate with the world. It showcases 55 works by 38 children with developmental disabilities who have participated in the Seoul Metropolitan Children’s Hospital art therapy program for over 10 years since 2011.
In the exhibition hall, paintings that convey feelings and thoughts that were difficult for the children to express verbally, as well as messages they wanted to share with friends and parents, are displayed alongside letters of love and encouragement written by their families. Additionally, to support the participating children, Yang Ye-jun (age 12), a developmental disability child artist who won the Student Art Contest at ‘Start Art Fair Seoul 2022,’ is invited as a featured artist and presents four works.
The Samsung Welfare Foundation is also producing a calendar featuring children’s artworks from the Seoul Metropolitan Children’s Hospital art therapy room. The 2023 calendar uses 12 pieces from this exhibition, featuring one artwork and a parent’s letter each month, designed as a desktop calendar so it can be displayed on shelves or tables like an art piece.
