58th Daejong Film Awards Jury Includes Bae Jong-ok, Yang Dong-geun, and Director Im Soon-rye

Preliminary and Final Rounds Separated, Joint Award System Abolished
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The Korean Film Artists Association (Yeonghyeop) has announced the list of judges for the 58th Daejong Film Awards, which will be held on the 9th of next month.
The main judges consist of a total of 11 members, including four chairpersons of affiliated associations under Yeonghyeop as stipulated by the Daejong Awards regulations. The seven additional judges appointed by Yeonghyeop are ▲Director Im Soon-rye ▲Actress Bae Jong-ok ▲Professor Kim Seon-ah ▲Professor Tae Bora, four women, and ▲Director Park Jong-won ▲Actor Yang Dong-geun ▲Critic Jung Jae-hyung, three men.
Director Im Soon-rye stated, "I did have some hesitation after receiving Director Yang Yun-ho’s proposal," adding, "However, I accepted the judging position with the mindset of contributing a small effort toward reform, believing that the Daejong Awards are not the exclusive property of any specific group but a precious asset and history of our entire film industry."
The total of 11 judges deciding the main category winners of the Daejong Film Awards includes the seven appointed judges and four ex officio judges: ▲Bang Soon-jung (Chairperson of the Korean Scenario Writers Association) ▲Lee Jin-young (Chairperson of the Korean Film Actors Association) ▲Kim Ki-tae (Chairperson of the Korean Cinematographers Association) ▲Kang Dae-young (Chairperson of the Korean Film Technical Organizations Council).
The Daejong Awards committee stated, "We have changed the previous submission system to a selection system involving preliminary and main rounds," and added, "We have abolished joint awards, which have always been a source of controversy at the ceremony."

Chairman Yang Yun-ho said, "Normalizing the Daejong Awards, which have suffered disruptions for years due to the mistakes of the previous administration, is by no means an easy task. Together with senior and junior colleagues in the film industry, we will reflect on the past mistakes of the Daejong Awards and overcome the unnecessary obstructive actions of the former entrusted company with one heart until the end."
