BGF Retail Supports Eco-Friendly Ger in Mongolia
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] BGF Retail, which operates the convenience store CU, announced on the 8th that it will carry out an eco-friendly and high-efficiency Ger project in Mongolia using donations collected through UNICEF’s "Love Coin Donation Box."
In Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, about 900,000 people live in traditional Mongolian portable tents called Gers, and they use fossil fuels such as coal for heating. This exposes children in their growth stages and pregnant women directly to harmful substances, significantly increasing the likelihood of diseases.
BGF Retail, along with CU franchise owners and the Korean Committee for UNICEF, visited Mongolia this month to check the status of the eco-friendly Ger support project. They met with Mongolian UNICEF and district officials to evaluate the project’s effectiveness and discuss future support directions.
Through the Korean Committee for UNICEF, BGF Retail plans to donate $500,000 over three years to support the installation of eco-friendly and high-efficiency Gers in 500 ordinary households and 10 kindergartens.
As a result, about 2,500 Ger residents and 250 Ger kindergarten students in Mongolia will have a clean living environment. Additionally, this will reduce carbon emissions and help decrease fine dust pollution.
