Pukyong National University Awards Honorary Doctorate in Political Science to Indonesian Speaker of Parliament

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] On the morning of the 7th, Pukyong National University awarded an honorary Doctorate in Political Science to Puan Maharani, Speaker of the Indonesian Parliament, at the university theater on the Daeyeon Campus.
The event was attended by Puan Maharani, Speaker of the Indonesian Parliament, former President Megawati, seven minister-level officials including the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, 41 members of parliament, eight university presidents, and about 140 others.
Speaker Puan Maharani received this degree in recognition of her outstanding political leadership and significant contributions to Indonesia's development and the advancement of women's rights.
Puan Maharani is a political leader who was elected as the first female Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR, People's Representative Council) in Indonesian history. She also served as Indonesia's youngest minister.
As a member of the ruling party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), she was elected to the National Parliament in the 2019 general election with the highest number of votes nationwide.
President Jang Young-su said, "I warmly congratulate Speaker Puan on receiving the honorable Doctorate in Political Science today and becoming a proud alumnus of Pukyong National University," adding, "I expect this meaningful event to serve as an opportunity to elevate exchanges and cooperation between Korea and Indonesia to a higher level."
He continued, "I ask for unwavering support as Pukyong National University plays the role of a hub university for exchange and cooperation between Korean and Indonesian universities and actively contributes as a leading university in higher education development and global leader cultivation in the Southeast Asian region."
Speaker Puan Maharani said, "I am very proud and honored to receive an honorary doctorate from Pukyong National University, one of the top universities," and added, "I am happy to become an alumnus of Pukyong National University and hope this event will be an opportunity to strengthen friendship between the two countries in education and all other fields."
On the same day in the afternoon, Pukyong National University President Jang Young-su signed academic exchange agreements with the presidents of eight Indonesian universities, including Pattimura State University, who visited Korea together with Speaker Puan Maharani.

According to the agreement, Pukyong National University will serve as a hub for Korea-Indonesia university exchanges and expand friendly cooperative relations in academic, cultural, and human resource fields.
