Crowd Rushes Toward Stage During Concert Causing Accident
Police and Medical Staff Reinforced, Distance Between Audience and Stage Expanded
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] During a concert by the group NCT127 in Indonesia, more than 30 audience members fainted as the crowd surged toward the stage. Following this, local police demanded enhanced safety management for the performance, and the second show the next day concluded successfully.
According to The Guardian and others on the 6th (local time), over 30 people fainted as the audience pushed forward to get closer to the stage during the NCT127 concert held in Jakarta on the 4th.
The incident occurred as about 8,000 concertgoers participated, and those in the standing section surged toward the stage, crossing the safety fence to receive gifts from NCT127 members.
Witnessing this, NCT127’s leader Taeyong requested the members to stop singing, and the other members, after assessing the situation, shouted at the crowd to "step back." However, the crowd continued to surge, and eventually the fence collapsed, causing some audience members to faint. All who fainted were transported to medical facilities, and fortunately, there were no life-threatening injuries reported.
A police official stated, "About 30 people fainted as fans pushed forward to get closer to the stage," adding, "To prevent further accidents, the concert was stopped around 9:20 PM that day."
The second NCT127 concert held on the 5th ended successfully after safety measures were strengthened. After the incident, the police requested the event organizers to prohibit the distribution of goods to fans and to implement stricter measures separating fans from performers. Additionally, more police officers and medical staff were deployed compared to the first show.
In response, the local promoter, Diandra Global Edutainment, widened the gap between the standing section and the stage by about 10 meters and created a resting area next to the standing section for tired audience members to take breaks. During the concert, breaks were also provided to allow the audience to catch their breath.

Meanwhile, Indonesia has been on high alert regarding public safety management following a recent 'stadium disaster' that resulted in over 135 deaths. On the 1st of last month, at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang Regency, East Java Province, excited spectators stormed the field after the home team lost, and police responded with tear gas. In an attempt to avoid the tear gas, the crowd rushed toward the exits, causing chaos and a crush that led to at least 125 deaths in a large-scale human casualty.
