Full Refund Automatically Issued for Tickets on Suspended Derailment Services Without Return Request

KORAIL employees are conducting restoration work in the early morning of the 7th on the railway near Yeongdeungpo Station in Seoul, where the Mugunghwa train derailment accident occurred.
The recovery from the derailment accident of the Mugunghwa train at Yeongdeungpo Station that occurred on the afternoon of the 6th is facing difficulties, and normal operation is expected to be possible only after 4 PM.
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 7th, "We aimed to resume normal operation by 1 PM today and carried out recovery work, but due to difficulties in recovery, it is delayed, and normal operation is expected after 4 PM."
Until full recovery, delays of some KTX and regular trains operating on the affected section are inevitable.
According to KORAIL, train operations of 15 KTX and 10 regular trains scheduled to depart before 9 AM from the first train of the day will be suspended. A total of 10 trains, including 6 KTX and 4 regular trains, will have shortened routes or changed departure stations.
KTX and regular trains will not stop at Yongsan Station and Yeongdeungpo Station until the accident is fully recovered. KORAIL plans to provide additional guidance on train operations after 9 AM.
Due to the accident's aftermath, delays or congestion are also expected on Seoul Subway Line 1 and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line until today.
The express trains on the Gyeongin Line section (Guro to Dongincheon) of Seoul Subway Line 1 will partially stop operation. Shuttle electric trains between Gwangmyeong Station and Yeongdeungpo Station will also suspend operation on the entire section.
KORAIL said, "Passengers are strongly advised to check train operation status in advance through KORAIL Talk, the customer center, or the website."
Compensation for operation suspensions and delays will also be provided.
Tickets for suspended trains will be automatically refunded in full the day after the scheduled boarding date without a separate refund request. For train delays of 20 minutes or more, 12.5% to 50% of the fare will be automatically refunded. However, KORAIL explained that tickets purchased with cash must be returned by visiting a nearby station within one year. Additional transportation costs will be provided to passengers who cannot use public transportation due to train delays.
Meanwhile, at around 8:52 PM the previous day, a Mugunghwa train carrying 279 passengers derailed near Yeongdeungpo Station in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, resulting in 34 minor injuries.
