'Banghan' German President Discusses Semiconductor Cooperation Plans at Samsung Electronics Pyeongtaek Campus
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of Germany, who is currently visiting Korea, visited Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Campus to tour the semiconductor production line and discuss cooperation measures between the two countries. This is the first official visit by a German president to a Samsung Electronics facility.
According to Samsung Electronics on the 5th, President Steinmeier and his spouse visited the Samsung Electronics Pyeongtaek Campus in the morning and toured Semiconductor Line 1 (P1). President Steinmeier also signed a memory semiconductor wafer.
In addition to the president, more than 60 people including members of the German Bundestag, figures from the economic and cultural sectors, journalists, and aides accompanied the visit. Samsung Electronics was represented by CEO Kyung Kye-hyun and Foundry Business Division Head President Choi Si-young, among others, and both sides discussed semiconductor cooperation measures.
At the event, Samsung Electronics also informed about Korea's efforts to host the '2030 Busan World Expo' and requested Germany's support.

Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Campus is the world's largest semiconductor production base, equivalent in size to 400 soccer fields, producing next-generation memory (DRAM and NAND) and ultra-fine foundry products (foundry: semiconductor contract manufacturing). U.S. President Joe Biden also visited Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Campus in May of this year.
