Musk Plans to Lay Off 3,700 Twitter Employees, Half of Workforce
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is reportedly planning to lay off about 3,700 employees, approximately half of Twitter's workforce, according to multiple sources cited by Bloomberg on the 2nd (local time).
According to the report, CEO Musk is expected to notify the affected employees on the 4th. Along with this, Bloomberg reported that Twitter plans to abolish the remote work policy maintained during the COVID-19 pandemic and call employees back to the office.
Bloomberg explained, "CEO Musk and his supporting team are reviewing several scenarios regarding employee layoffs and other internal policies, and the scale of layoffs may still change." One of the scenarios under discussion reportedly includes providing 60 days' severance pay to those laid off, according to sources.
The scale of Twitter's employee layoffs has been an ongoing issue since CEO Musk decided to acquire the company. Just before the acquisition, The Washington Post (WP) reported that 75% of Twitter employees would be laid off, but Musk denied this. Later, it was reported that 25% were initially laid off, and ultimately about half of the entire workforce would be let go.
