Adultery Scandal Between Married Male Teacher and Single Female Teacher at an Elementary School in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk
Teacher's Wife Files Lawsuit Against Single Female Teacher... Parents Demand Severe Punishment
[Asia Economy Reporter Bora Lee] An extramarital affair between a married male teacher and an unmarried female teacher at an elementary school in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, has been uncovered, prompting the education authorities to launch an investigation. Meanwhile, parents are also demanding strict punishment for the parties involved in the affair.
According to the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education on the 2nd, Mr. A, a teacher at an elementary school in Gimcheon, and his wife Ms. B are both teachers and have a young daughter. However, Mr. A has been involved in an extramarital relationship with Ms. C, an unmarried female teacher working at the same school.
Mr. A and Ms. C maintained their affair from June last year until August this year when Ms. B discovered it. Mr. A wrote a pledge to end his relationship with Ms. C, but he resumed meeting her and was caught again in September.
Currently, Mr. A has left home and is on parental leave but is not involved in childcare. His wife, Ms. B, who is suffering from mental distress, has taken parental leave to care for their child. It is reported that during a phone call with Mr. A’s family, Ms. C acknowledged her relationship with Mr. A and expressed that she "does not want to break up."
Controversy has also arisen because Mr. A’s school approved his parental leave (for three months) from the 1st of last month until January 6th of next year, despite him not taking care of the child. Since the abolition of adultery as a criminal offense, disciplinary actions such as reprimand, salary reduction, suspension, dismissal, or termination have been imposed in cases of teacher infidelity.
Ms. B is currently pursuing legal action against Ms. C, the mistress. She has filed for a consensual divorce with her husband Mr. A at the court and requested an investigation from the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education against Mr. A and Ms. C for their extramarital affair, improper use of parental leave, and violation of the duty to maintain dignity.
Ms. B’s parents reportedly submitted a petition to the Gyeongbuk Superintendent of Education, asking for severe disciplinary measures against Mr. A and Ms. C, who destroyed the family through their affair, to prevent such incidents from recurring in schools, which are the halls of education.
