Jeju Island to Host Top Domestic Women's Golf Tournament Quietly

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] Following the designation of a national mourning period until November 5th in relation to the recent Itaewon incident, the ‘2022 16th S-Oil Championship Golf Tournament’ held over four days from the 3rd at Jeju City’s Elysian Country Club will be conducted with spectators refraining from excessive cheers and applause.

Participants will wear black ribbons on their hats throughout the tournament and observe a moment of silence before tee shots to honor the deceased.

The Korean Women’s Professional Golf Tournament, held for the fourth time this season in Jeju, plans to offer various events alongside the participation of top players.

Defending champion Park Ji-young, along with Park Min-ji who is leading the KLPGA money rankings this season, Kim Su-ji who is first in the points race, Lim Hee-jung, Park Hyun-kyung, and other top-performing players will compete for the championship trophy.

Additionally, an online pre-event guessing the winner will be held for spectators, and generous prizes will be awarded through a raffle during the final round.

Furthermore, the organizers aim to establish the tournament as a true sportsmanship event by implementing a differentiated awarding system that grants medals not only to the winner but also to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

Oh Sung-yul, Director of Jeju Province’s Culture, Sports and External Cooperation Bureau, stated, “We will continue to attract golf tournaments that can generate high value-added golf tourism demand,” and added, “We hope this tournament will become a regional festival enjoyed by golf tourists and local residents alike.”
