Jeonnam Province Provides 4 Billion KRW for Facility Costs and 200 Million KRW Annually for Operating Expenses
[Mokpo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] Mokpo City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 2nd that it has been selected as the target site for the “Jeollanam-do Public Postpartum Care Center Installation and Operation” contest project, one of the pledges of the 8th local government administration.
The Jeollanam-do Selection Committee evaluated site suitability, willingness to promote the project, appropriateness of the project plan, accessibility, and specialized program areas on the 26th of last month, selecting Hansarang Hospital in Mokpo City as the project target for the Jeollanam-do Public Postpartum Care Center (hereafter Public Postpartum Care Center).
The Public Postpartum Care Centers have been established and operated in five locations including Haenam General Hospital, the first branch opened in January 2015, followed by Gangjin, Wando, Naju, and Suncheon, receiving great responses from mothers due to affordable costs and high-quality services.
The Mokpo City Public Postpartum Care Center is planned to open in 2024 and will be constructed on a site near Hansarang Hospital in Sang-dong, with a four-story building totaling 1,634㎡ in gross floor area. It will include 15 maternity rooms, an infant room, observation room, nursing room, program room, counseling room, and body care room.

Park Ki-seok, Director of Mokpo City Health Center, said, “We have been promoting the construction of the Public Postpartum Care Center to make Mokpo a happy city from childbirth to old age,” adding, “We will continue to work on policies to reduce the burden of childbirth and parenting, protect maternal health, and resolve low birthrate issues.”
