Construction of the '206m Elevated Walkway' Begins in Baegun Plaza, Nam-gu, Gwangju
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Construction of an approximately 206-meter-long elevated pedestrian walkway at Baegun Plaza in Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is set to begin in earnest.
Nam-gu's policy is to make Baegun Plaza a landmark in the area by connecting the disconnected Green Road Park walking paths, creating a space where people, nature, and culture coexist.
On the 2nd, Nam-gu announced, "To revitalize the economy around Baegun Plaza and create a pedestrian-friendly street, we have completed the selection of a construction company for the Baegun Plaza elevated pedestrian walkway," adding, "We are embarking on a 13-month long project aiming for completion by the end of next year."
The Baegun Plaza elevated pedestrian walkway will primarily connect the disconnected Green Road Park from Baegun Plaza to Jinwol-dong and Namgwangju Station directions.
Starting from the main gate of Nam-gu Office, the walkway will be constructed in a streamlined shape combining the letters ‘Y’ and ‘S’, allowing for sky walking. The total length is 206.4 meters.
Among the elevated walkway sections, a low-profile 61.6-meter ramp will be built from the plaza in front of Yangwoo Naeanae toward Namgwangju Station, and an 80.8-meter ramp will be constructed from the street food zone toward Jinwol-dong.
The Baegun Plaza elevated pedestrian walkway can be accessed from three directions: in front of the main gate of Nam-gu Office, the walking path near the street food zone, and the plaza in front of Yangwoo Naeanae.
To improve accessibility and convenience, elevators and stairs will be installed at five and four locations respectively.
The elevator installation sites are in front of the main gate of Nam-gu Office, near Gwangnam Lumber across from Nam-gu Office, on the road in front of Nam-gu Volunteer Center, in front of Red Elephant Hair Salon, and at the plaza in front of Yangwoo Naeanae.
Stairs will be provided at the same locations except for the main gate of Nam-gu Office.
Additionally, the Baegun Plaza elevated pedestrian walkway will connect to the Baegun Plaza Station entrance of the urban railway Line 2, which is currently under construction, enabling Gwangju citizens to walk to anywhere including the second floor of Nam-gu Office and both directions of the Green Road Park walking paths.
