Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to Implement 'Autonomous Driving Traffic Safety Training Course' on the 3rd
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 2nd that it will implement the 'Autonomous Driving Traffic Safety Education Course' for autonomous vehicle test drivers for the first time on the 3rd to prevent safety accidents during autonomous vehicle test driving.
An autonomous vehicle test driver is a person who monitors the driving situation and the proper functioning of the autonomous vehicle both inside and outside the vehicle and performs safety measures in emergencies.
The Autonomous Driving Traffic Safety Education Course is designed to cultivate the ability of autonomous vehicle test drivers to respond to potential emergency situations that may occur during autonomous driving based on a correct understanding of autonomous driving functions.
The education program includes desired subjects and content confirmed through interviews and surveys with stakeholders in the autonomous driving industry.
The curriculum consists of a total of 8 hours covering topics such as ?Autonomous Vehicle Technology and Future Transportation Changes ?Kind Service for Autonomous Vehicle Passengers ?Understanding Related Laws such as the Road Traffic Act ?Autonomous Vehicle Safe Driving Guidelines and Accident Analysis.
The main contents include driver compliance measures such as control transfer procedures to the test driver in emergencies like functional failures during autonomous driving, as well as various measures to ensure the safety of autonomous driving services and improve passenger convenience, including customer service training.
So far, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has supported the demonstration and technology development of autonomous driving services by cooperating with Seoul City to provide passenger transportation services within the Seoul Sangam Autonomous Vehicle Pilot Zone.
This year, a pilot zone was additionally designated in June to operate autonomous driving services in the Gangnam and Cheonggyecheon areas.
