Jeonnam Provincial Council Criticizes Need to Enhance Professionalism of Citizen Honorary Reporters
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] At the administrative audit of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, there was a call to enhance the professionalism of the honorary reporters for residents.
On the 1st, Jeong Cheol, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Jangseong 1), pointed out at the administrative audit of the spokesperson office during the 2nd regular session of the 367th meeting, “Efforts should be made to enhance the professionalism of honorary reporters for residents who play a role in delivering the vivid voices from daily life.”
Councilor Jeong said, “Honorary reporters for residents are actively engaged in activities such as helping with farm work, environmental cleanup, and fundraising to revitalize the local community, but it seems they are more focused on volunteer work than on reporting duties,” and requested, “Please promote practical education such as field visits and workshops so that honorary reporters can become experts in promoting provincial administration.”
He continued, “Looking at the age distribution, people in their 40s and 50s are the most active honorary reporters, but to capture diverse local voices, appointments should be made evenly considering region, age, gender, and occupation.”
He also emphasized, “There are a total of 140 honorary reporters for residents, but only 31 of them are from hometown associations. To spread key issues handled by Jeonnam, such as policies responding to local extinction and the hometown love donation system, nationwide, the number of reporters needs to be increased.”
In response, Go Mi-kyung, spokesperson for Jeonnam Province, said, “We agree that more honorary reporters are needed, but since the operation is limited to within 150 people as stipulated by the ‘Jeollanam-do Honorary Reporters for Residents Operation Ordinance,’ we have not been able to increase the number. We will prepare measures to operate effectively within the set number.”
