Gyeonggi-do Requires Logistics Area Equivalent to 200 Soccer Fields by 2030
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] An analysis has emerged that more than 200 soccer field-sized logistics facilities will be needed in Gyeonggi Province alone within the next eight years.
The Gyeonggi Research Institute released a report titled "The Need to Establish a New Logistics System in the Era of 10 Million Metropolitan Area Living Logistics" on the 1st, analyzing this issue. Living logistics includes parcel delivery, small cargo delivery (delivery agency and quick service), and online agricultural and marine product transactions, with parcel delivery services accounting for the largest share.
According to the report, an analysis of living logistics cargo volume in the metropolitan area over two weeks in December 2020 showed that 58.8% of the daily average departure and arrival cargo volume was concentrated in Gyeonggi Province. Among these, 11 cities and counties in the western part of Gyeonggi, including Suwon, accounted for a high proportion of 38.3%. Next, nine cities and counties in the northern area, including Gimpo, recorded 23.0%.
By region, 37.9% of living logistics facilities were concentrated in seven cities and counties in the eastern area, while only 4.2% were in the northern area.
Compared to 2020, the daily living logistics cargo volume in Gyeonggi Province is expected to increase by 81.0%, from 2,729,399 items to 4,939,514 items by 2030. Accordingly, the required area for living logistics facilities in Gyeonggi Province in 2030 is expected to be 4.13 million square meters (equivalent to 578 soccer fields). Applying 0.84 square meters per item, it is analyzed that 1.85 million square meters (equivalent to 259 soccer fields) will be insufficient.
The institute emphasized the need to establish a new logistics system strategy that induces balanced living logistics facility locations by region in preparation for future cargo volume increases.
Specifically, the proposals include ▲ establishing urban living logistics plans and systems closely linked to daily life ▲ supporting the expansion of e-commerce smart logistics complexes ▲ creating advanced and converged regional logistics infrastructure ▲ establishing safe logistics facilities and good jobs ▲ and building a sustainable eco-friendly logistics system.
