Kim Gi-won, CEO of Sports Media, Awarded the Bogwan Cultural Medal on 'Magazine Day'
President's Commendation Awarded to Kwak Hyeran, Media Batang CEO and Founder of 'Munhak Batang' Magazine
On the 1st, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a 'Magazine Day' commemorative ceremony at the Daloreum Theater of the National Theater of Korea and awarded government honors to individuals who contributed to the development of magazine culture.
This year's awardees include fourteen people: one recipient of the Bogwan Cultural Medal, one Presidential Citation, one Prime Minister Citation, and eleven Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Citations.
The Bogwan Cultural Medal is awarded to Kim Gi-won, CEO of Sports Media. He is a magazine publisher who launched the monthly magazine Badminton in 1997 after working as a sports magazine reporter and editor-in-chief. He contributed to the development of the sports industry by publishing monthly magazines specializing in sports such as squash, baseball, and tennis.
The Presidential Citation goes to Kwak Hye-ran, CEO of Media Batang, who founded the monthly magazine Munhak Batang, and the Prime Minister Citation is awarded to Noh Young-sun, CEO of Jeonwoo Munhwasa, who publishes the monthly magazines Jeongi and Jeonwon Jutaek Life. The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Citations are awarded to Kim Sang-woo, CEO of EToday PNC; Park Cheol-gyu, CEO of New Technology Information; Lee Jae-kyung, CEO of G&T; Choi Jeong-hyun, CEO of Creative Talent Education; Hwang Soon-shin, CEO of GuideMe; Han Hee-jin, CEO of Miyagi Media; Kim Sook-kyung, CEO of Textile Journal; Choi Seo-im, CEO of Korea Agricultural Trends Research Institute; Sung Baek-jin, CEO of ACR Media; Kim Seong-sook, CEO of Nane; and Lee Won-hyung, CEO of IntoIn Media.

Magazine Day was designated in 1965 to commemorate the founding date of Soyeon, the first modern magazine by Yukdang Choi Nam-seon (November 1, 1908). The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism annually awards individuals to boost the morale of magazine professionals and promote the development of the related industry.
