Gwangju Buk-gu Joins in Mourning Atmosphere for Itaewon Tragedy
All Employees Wear Black Ribbons to Share Grief, Strict Work Discipline and Attendance Management During Mourning Period
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju City, joins the mourning atmosphere regarding the crush disaster that occurred in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
According to Buk-gu on the 31st, during the national mourning period until the 5th of next month in relation to the Itaewon disaster, they will participate in the memorial atmosphere and thoroughly manage public officials' work discipline and service management.
During the mourning period, all employees of Buk-gu will wear black ribbons to honor the souls of the victims, share the pain of the bereaved families, and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Additionally, Chief Moon instructed public officials to refrain from group dinners and excessive drinking, and urged them to avoid non-urgent events and domestic or overseas business trips.
He also ordered the establishment of a rapid reporting system and maintenance of an emergency contact network during the national mourning period.
Chief Moon said, "My heart aches when I think of the bereaved families who cannot be comforted by any words regarding the Itaewon crush disaster," adding, "We sincerely pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and will do our best to implement follow-up measures that our district can support."
Meanwhile, on the 30th, Chief Moon canceled all official schedules and events, chaired an emergency countermeasure meeting, rechecked the resident safety manual, and decided to postpone or cancel festival events during the mourning period.
