The Democratic Party of Korea proposed postponing the National Assembly audit of the Presidential Office, scheduled for the 3rd of next month, by about a week, confirming a consensus between the parties.
On the 31st, the Democratic Party's floor leadership announced, "Just now, through a phone call between the chiefs of both parties, it was decided to postpone the Presidential Office audit scheduled for the 3rd by about a week," adding, "There was a verbal agreement to hold it after the mourning period ends, and we plan to hold a chief meeting around 5:30 PM today to establish a clear official position and schedule."
Accordingly, the National Assembly Secretariat and Human Rights Commission audits scheduled for the 2nd of next month will proceed as planned, while only the Presidential Office audit scheduled for the 3rd is expected to be postponed.
Jin Seong-jun, the Democratic Party's senior deputy floor leader, explained to Asia Economy, "Since the Presidential Office is the control tower for managing the Itaewon tragedy, the Democratic Party proposed the postponement so that they can focus on recovery efforts at least during the mourning period," adding that the ruling party also agreed.

After the tragedy in Itaewon, the Democratic Party promised bipartisan cooperation and restrained and minimized their offensive against the ruling party. Earlier, the Democratic Party postponed the visit of the Economic Crisis Investigation Team, led by Kim Jin-tae, to the Gangwon Provincial Office, which was scheduled to respond to the bond market crisis that day, and also decided to suspend the one-person protests by the Political Oppression Countermeasures Committee in front of the Yongsan Presidential Office. Joo Ho-young, the floor leader of the People Power Party, said at the emergency meeting held at the National Assembly that day, "I thank the Democratic Party and its leader Lee for deciding to suspend all political activities and fully cooperate with the government's accident recovery and healing measures," adding, "We will request necessary cooperation."
