Kim Ui-gyeom Retaliates Against Ruling Party's Ethics Committee Filing... "Party, Government, and Assembly Trio Came to Gang Up and Attack"
"President Apologizes, Will Consider Apology"
Park Hong-geun Also Directly Hits Back: "It Would Be Enough to Just Say No"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Kim Eui-gyeom, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, rebutted the ruling party that submitted a disciplinary proposal against him to the National Assembly Ethics Special Committee, calling it "a low and childish act of rushing in all at once and beating me up."
On the 28th, Kim issued a statement on Facebook, saying, "The Minister of Justice keeps trying to find something to pin on me, and the President said it was 'a low and childish provocation,' and on top of that, the party even submitted a disciplinary proposal," expressing his stance.
That morning, National Assembly members Yoo Sang-beom, Kim Mi-ae, and Kim Hyung-dong, who belong to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, submitted a disciplinary proposal against Kim to the National Assembly Secretariat. Earlier, Kim had raised suspicions that President Yoon Seok-yeol and Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon had late-night drinking gatherings with lawyers from Kim & Chang.
In response, Kim said, "It feels like the three?party, government, and president?have all rushed in together to beat me up," and added, "I even think it’s violent."
He continued, "The essence of this issue is whether or not I can ask questions at the National Assembly audit," and said, "Very specific information was reported. And the person identified as being at that gathering, who is not an ordinary citizen but even served as the president of the Federation of Korean Freedom Fighters, admitted that such a gathering took place."
He stated, "President Lee Se-chang claims that the content of the phone call with the reporter was fabricated and pieced together, but whether the call was manipulated or edited will soon be revealed," and added, "It is unimaginable that I fabricated or manipulated information just to ask questions."
He further said, "If journalists receive such reports, wouldn’t they ask questions? If not, they should return their press cards, and as a member of the National Assembly, I should remove my badge."
He also said, "The People Power Party demands an apology and even mentioned the DNA of Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party leader. But I think the person who truly lacks apology and reflection in their DNA is President Yoon Seok-yeol," and added, "If the President apologizes first, I will seriously consider apologizing as well."
Park Hong-geun, the floor leader, also met with reporters after the National Assembly Intelligence Committee audit that day and criticized, "We should never approach the right of a National Assembly member to question government officials, guaranteed by the Constitution, in such a way," and said, "Minister Han should calmly respond by simply denying the allegations if he received such reports and was questioned."
He added, "The President is the same. There are dates and times when these allegations were raised," and said, "Whether there are interpretations before or after that time, if he calmly says that nothing happened and where he was at that time, wouldn’t the suspicions be resolved?"
