View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Graduate students from the Department of Life Resources Science at Gyeongsang National University recently won the Gold Prize in the Product Development Competition, the Excellent Poster Award, and the Graduate Thesis Presentation Award (STAR) at the "2022 Korean Society of Food and Nutrition Science International Symposium and Annual Conference" held at the Jeju International Convention Center.
Team leader Seongmin Jo, a master's student, developed a premium olive-flavored oil product utilizing the aromatic components of tangerine peel and received the Gold Prize in the Product Development Competition.
Team leader Seongmin Jo said, "As a flavored oil using tangerine peel, we developed a product that promotes brain activity through EEG analysis and improves the taste and aroma of existing oils, gaining recognition for its potential from food-related researchers and industry experts."
Advisor Professor Sin Eui-cheol stated, "We presented sensory analysis of the aromatic components of flavored oil containing tangerine peel using electronic nose and electronic tongue technologies, and through EEG analysis, proposed the cognitive functionality of the flavored oil. This product will be a new item with potential in the current premium flavored oil market."
Additionally, Seongjun Hong, a doctoral student in the Department of Life Resources Science, received the Excellent Poster Award at the conference for his presentation titled "Anti-obesity Effects of Inhalation of Fennel Essential Oil in an Obesity-Induced Animal Model," and master's student Sojung Yoon received the Thesis Presentation Award (STAR) for her presentation titled "Improvement and Validation of Analytical Methods for Enzyme-treated Stevia."
