Imsil-gun to Operate 'Autumn Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters' Starting Next Month

[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 28th that it will designate the period from next month 1st to December 15th as the autumn wildfire caution period and establish and operate a wildfire prevention countermeasure headquarters at the county office (Forest and Park Division) and 12 eup/myeon offices.

The wildfire prevention countermeasure headquarters will deploy 70 personnel, including wildfire specialized firefighting teams and wildfire watchers, dispersed in vulnerable areas to strengthen wildfire prevention activities such as prohibiting burning near forest areas, carrying fire or flammable materials in the mountains.

The wildfire firefighting leased helicopter operated by Jeollabuk-do is stationed in nearby areas, Namwon and Wanju, to establish a perfect initial firefighting system that can immediately dispatch in case of an incident.

Also, wildfire monitoring activities will be promoted comprehensively using wildfire monitoring cameras installed at four major points within the jurisdiction, including Baekryeonsan.

In particular, to block burning activities of rice paddies and fields ridges and agricultural waste, which are major causes of wildfires and fine dust, wildfire caution flags, banners, and wildfire prevention promotional boards have been installed at village halls.

The county plans to not only promote the dangers of burning activities but also conduct focused crackdowns during vulnerable times for burning and take strong measures against offenders according to relevant laws.

In case of wildfire occurrence, a rapid and accurate wildfire reporting system is established by linking the wildfire reporting devices distributed to eup/myeon wildfire watchers with the Korea Forest Service wildfire situation control system, and a wildfire investigation team that has completed professional training will be mobilized to thoroughly identify and legally process the wildfire perpetrators.

County Governor Shim Min said, “Since most recent wildfires are caused artificially by burning ridges near forests and agricultural waste, we ask residents for active interest and caution in wildfire prevention,” and added, “We will make every effort to protect valuable forest resources and safeguard the lives and property of county residents.”
