Samsung Engineering Achieves Construction Industry's First Zero Waste Landfill Grade

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Samsung Engineering has become the first in the construction industry to achieve a zero waste landfill rating.
On the 28th, Samsung Engineering announced that its Songdo Edison 4 (EDISON 4) site received the 'Zero Waste Landfill Certification' from UL Solutions, a global safety and science certification organization. The award ceremony was held the previous day at Samsung Engineering's headquarters.
This certification was awarded in recognition of Samsung Engineering's Songdo Edison 4 site's excellent waste management capabilities. UL Solutions evaluates the recycling rate of waste generated at business sites and grants ratings such as Platinum (100%), Gold (99?95%), and Silver (94?90%).
Samsung Engineering recycled 4,280 tons, which is 98% of the 4,368 tons of waste generated during the verification period from March 2021 to February 2022, earning the Gold rating. Construction sites generate construction waste such as waste concrete, waste synthetic resin, waste wood, and waste boards. Recycling these materials not only prevents environmental pollution and promotes resource reuse but also reduces carbon emissions generated during the production of new materials.

A Samsung Engineering official explained, "We set the basic treatment principle for site waste as 100% recycling and improved the recycling rate through detailed separation of waste materials and strict sorting and management supervision." He added, "Our eco-friendly efforts, including maximizing resource circulation and reducing carbon emissions, were recognized, leading to the acquisition of the Gold rating this time."
