[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Pungkukjujeong is showing strong performance following news that Samsung Electronics is promoting the localization of xenon (Xe) gas, a core semiconductor material. Pungkukjujeong handles special gases including xenon through its subsidiary.
As of 10:33 AM on the 27th, Pungkukjujeong is trading at 12,550 KRW, up 12.5% compared to the previous trading day.
Xenon gas, which is currently entirely dependent on imports, is an essential material used in advanced semiconductor production such as 3D V-NAND.
On the same day, Samsung Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding with POSCO for 'semiconductor xenon gas business cooperation' and agreed to receive xenon gas supplies starting in 2024.
POSCO plans to develop equipment technology to extract xenon gas from the air separation unit at the Gwangyang Steelworks by 2023 and start production from 2024.
