[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hyundai Motor Group is fostering a favorable atmosphere in the Latin American region for the bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan and is actively supporting the Busan bid.
On the 27th, Hyundai Motor Group announced that Jang Jae-hoon, President of Hyundai Motor Company, will visit three Latin American countries?Bahamas, Chile, and Paraguay?to promote the 2030 Busan World Expo bid.
Latin America has a total of 29 member countries of the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE), ranking third after Europe (48 countries) and Africa (45 countries). It is considered a "casting vote" region in the competition to host the 2030 World Expo.
President Jang visited major cities in the three countries?Nassau in the Bahamas, Santiago in Chile, and Asunci?n in Paraguay?over five nights and six days starting on the 26th (local time). He met with high-level officials who can make decisions on the World Expo host country vote, explaining Busan's competitiveness, future vision, and the blueprint for the 2030 Busan World Expo, requesting support for Busan's bid.
Considering these countries' strong interest in climate change response and sustainable growth, he plans to emphasize Busan and South Korea's dynamism and future-oriented nature as a future-oriented eco-friendly smart city based on digital technology, highlighting Busan as the optimal location for the 2030 World Expo.
Additionally, taking into account the Korean Wave (Hallyu) fever in Latin America, which is expanding beyond K-POP to include language, food, and overall Korean culture, he will actively convey the differentiated vision of the Busan World Expo utilizing Busan's world-class tourism infrastructure and K-content such as films and games.
President Jang will also discuss future cooperation projects and community contribution activities between Hyundai Motor Group and the visited countries, aiming to build consensus for sustainable growth.
He plans to exchange views on mutual cooperation measures related to eco-friendly vehicle promotion policies, such as the spread of electric vehicles and the establishment of charging infrastructure, which these governments are pursuing.
Furthermore, discussions will be held on the possibility of various future social contribution projects in the Latin American region, including operating industry-academia cooperation programs linked with local university automotive departments and providing educational materials to nurture automotive talent in the region.
