[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The application results for the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's secondary school teacher recruitment exam show that the competition rate for public school teachers has dropped to around 8 to 1. In contrast, the competition rate for private schools has exceeded 50 to 1 due to a sharp decrease in the number of positions available.

The competition rates by recruitment category are as follows: ▲Public school teachers 8.53 to 1 ▲National school teachers 6.67 to 1 ▲Private schools (simultaneous public and private application consignment method) 50.26 to 1 ▲Private schools (multiple private applications consignment method) 21.97 to 1.
For public schools, the number of positions increased by 125 compared to last year, causing a slight decrease in the competition rate. The overall public school competition rate decreased from 9.81 to 1 last year to 8.53 to 1, and the secondary school teacher (subject) competition rate dropped from 12.46 to 1 last year to 8.05 to 1.
The subject with the highest competition rate in public schools was librarian teachers, with 173 applicants for 5 positions, resulting in a 34.60 to 1 competition rate. This was followed by special education at 14.10 to 1 and professional counseling at 13.68 to 1.
In private schools, the competition rate varied significantly depending on the consignment method. Thirty-two school corporations (41 schools) that chose the simultaneous public and private application consignment method had 3,820 applicants for 76 positions, resulting in a competition rate of 50.26 to 1. The number of positions decreased by more than half, causing the competition rate to rise sharply compared to last year's 28.7 to 1.
Thirty-eight school corporations (51 schools) that chose the multiple private applications consignment method had 2,219 applicants for 101 positions, recording a competition rate of 21.97 to 1.
