This was made possible thanks to the dedication and hard work of all employees. Thank you very much.” On the 26th, at Samsung Biologics in Songdo, Incheon, John Rim, CEO of Samsung Biologics, dressed in a black chef's outfit, expressed his gratitude by handing out hamburgers and craft beer to employees from a food truck.
Samsung Biologics announced on the 27th that it planned a week-long food truck event from the 24th to the 31st to celebrate the successful partial operation of the 4th plant and to encourage employees. Samsung Biologics began partial operation (60,000ℓ) of the world's largest 4th plant (240,000ℓ) on the 1st of this month. This achievement was reached in a short period of 23 months since construction began in November 2020. When the 4th plant is fully operational next year, Samsung Biologics' total production capacity will be 604,000ℓ, expected to account for about 30% of the global biopharmaceutical production capacity.
The food truck event prepared burger and craft beer sets for a total of about 5,500 people, including employees and in-house partner company staff. To allow employees to enjoy generously with family and acquaintances, they could choose between a family set (4 burgers) per person or a 2-person set.
In particular, this food truck event was themed ‘John’s Diner,’ where CEO John Rim personally served food dressed as a chef, expressing his gratitude to each employee. Moreover, board members and executives also participated in on-site serving to encourage employees. Employees who participated in the event enjoyed taking ‘certification shots’ with CEO Rim and exchanging greetings.
The food truck was decorated with a Halloween concept to celebrate the upcoming Halloween Day, allowing participants to enjoy the serving process in a festive atmosphere. Samsung Biologics’ mascot ‘Samba Heroes’ character dolls were given as gifts to employees who won instant lottery tickets, receiving great responses.
This is not the first food truck event. As part of CEO Rim’s management philosophy to create a company where people can communicate and work happily together, the event has been held four times including this one since last year. It has established itself as an event to boost employee morale at Samsung Biologics.
Besides the food truck, CEO Rim is expanding communication opportunities with employees through various events. On the 27th and 28th, a lunch meeting titled ‘A Wonderful Day in October,’ planned by ideas from new employees, will be held. Sixteen new employees with less than one year of service will have lunch with CEO John Rim in the company cafeteria and then share thoughts and resolve questions over refreshments in the CEO’s office.
Additionally, CEO Rim is making efforts to strengthen the communication culture through various events such as ‘Reverse Mentoring,’ where new employees become mentors to executives to share mutual experiences, employee town halls, and ‘Real Talk,’ where he once said it was an honor to be called ‘John-hyung’ by employees.
