The Consumer Agency measured the performance of eight products: Samsung Electronics AX070B812SND, Xiaomi AC-M13-SC, Winia WPA25D0XSW, Winix APRM833-JWK, Coway AP-2021A, Cuckoo AC-20T20FWH, LG Electronics AS202NBHA, and SK Magic ACL-20U1C. According to the main test and evaluation results by category, all products met the relevant standards for fine dust removal performance. Regarding the removal rates of five gases?formaldehyde and toluene, which cause sick house syndrome, and ammonia, acetaldehyde, and acetic acid, which cause household odors?six products (Samsung, Winix, Coway, Cuckoo, LG, and SK Magic) showed relatively excellent performance with an average removal rate of over 87%.
In the case of Winia, it was found that replacing the filter with a new one caused about a 17% decrease in harmful gas removal and deodorization efficiency. In response, Winia replied to the Consumer Agency that filters from other products, which are difficult to distinguish externally, were mistakenly shipped, and they plan to contact consumers who purchased the product since January of this year individually and provide the appropriate filter for the model free of charge.
There were also differences in annual maintenance costs such as electricity bills. According to the Consumer Agency, when converted to energy cost per unit area, the Winix product was the cheapest at 193 KRW per 1㎡ annually, while the Winia product was the most expensive at 305 KRW.
