"Professor Seokyoungdeok Protests Apple CEO Tim Cook Over Absence of Dokdo on iPhone Maps"
Letter to Tim Cook on the occasion of 'Dokdo Day'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University announced on the 25th, 'Dokdo Day,' that he sent a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook demanding that 'Dokdo' be labeled on the iPhone map. Dokdo is not labeled on iPhone maps in 22 countries including the United States.
In the letter, Professor Seo stated, "In the sea between Korea and Japan, the 'East Sea,' there are islands called 'Ulleungdo' and 'Dokdo,'" adding, "When searched from Korea, it correctly appears as 'Dokdo,' but in Japan, it appears as '竹島' (Takeshima), which is their sole claim." He protested, saying, "This is a clear error and incorrect labeling," and pointed out, "Dokdo is Korea's inherent territory historically, geographically, and under international law." He also addressed the situation where 'Dokdo' does not appear on iPhone maps in countries other than Korea and Japan.
