Dokdo and Ulleungdo Meet Above and Below the Sea ... KIOST Hosts Dokdo Exhibition
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) will hold an exhibition on Dokdo from October 25 to December 30, for 67 days, in collaboration with the National Science Museum to commemorate the proclamation day of Emperor Gojong's Dokdo Imperial Decree.
The event commemorates the Dokdo Imperial Decree Day, when on October 25, 1900, Emperor Gojong enacted Imperial Decree No. 41 of the Korean Empire, clearly establishing Dokdo as Korean territorial sovereignty.
The exhibition features ▲ the underwater territorial appearance of Dokdo ▲ underwater scenery of Dokdo ▲ underwater ecological map of Dokdo ▲ marine life of Dokdo depicted in detailed illustrations ▲ fish living in Dokdo ▲ marine scientific survey activities around Dokdo ▲ deep-sea exploration videos of Dokdo ▲ and natural ecological photographs of Dokdo and Ulleungdo.
Our government has enacted the "Act on the Sustainable Use of Dokdo" to discover Dokdo's potential value and systematically utilize and manage it.
The KIOST Dokdo Specialized Research Center has been designated as the national specialized research institution for Dokdo, conducting research and collecting data on Dokdo and its surrounding waters to establish a system for national utilization.
Park Chan-hong, head of the Dokdo Specialized Research Center, said, "The exhibition is an opportunity to see the hidden vast underwater territory of Dokdo, the underwater appearance of Dokdo, the diverse and fascinating Dokdo organisms, and the role of marine science and technology and scientists' activities that reveal Dokdo's marine world."
The center stated that it plans to continue promoting the importance and value of Dokdo through marine science and technology and to discover Dokdo's potential value.

KIOST Director Kim Woong-seo said, "Dokdo is a habitat for various marine organisms and is a significant territory that scientifically shows the entire process of growth and evolution of marine islands," adding, "With the marine science research achievements under the sea and the terrestrial organism photographs of Dokdo and Ulleungdo from the National Science Museum also exhibited, we hope this exhibition will be an opportunity for the public to get closer to Dokdo above and below the sea."
