[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Nosik] Okjeongho Suspension Bridge and Bungeo Island in Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk, have captivated tourists.
The county announced on the 24th that since the opening ceremony of the Okjeongho Suspension Bridge and the opening of Bungeo Island on the 22nd, about 70,000 tourists visited over the weekend.
The completion ceremony, which began with a welcoming speech by County Governor Shim Min and a congratulatory address by Governor Kim Gwan-young, was a grand success with a splendid celebration performance and the attendance of dignitaries and about 2,000 visitors.
In his congratulatory speech, Governor Kim Gwan-young said, “Imsil-gun, famous for cheese, now has another great pride,” adding, “With Bungeo Island connected by the suspension bridge, it will become a landmark of Imsil and Jeollabuk-do.”
At the following congratulatory concert, top domestic singers such as Lee Young-hyun, Nabi, and Na Tae-ju performed, greatly enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
The Okjeongho Suspension Bridge is an asymmetrical suspension bridge with an 80-meter-high main tower shaped like a carp soaring from Okjeongho, and its length reaches 420 meters.
Using flooring materials that allow a view of the water surface, it is expected that visitors will also enjoy a thrilling experience that makes their hearts race.
Also, the mysterious Bungeo Island was opened to the public for the first time that day, attracting many admirations and captivating tourists’ eyes.
Bungeo Island features a visitor information center, walking trails, a lawn plaza, a forest library, a wind bath area, rest spots, and a garden, creating a themed park.
Tourists who crossed the suspension bridge to visit Bungeo Island were amazed by the magnificently constructed suspension bridge and the beautiful scenery of Okjeongho, as well as the Bungeo Island filled with Korean asters and chrysanthemums, bursting into exclamations.
An ecological park decorated with various flowers such as azaleas, hydrangeas, Korean asters, moss phlox, and peonies has been created, promising beautiful scenery throughout all four seasons.
The county expects the number of tourists to continue increasing and plans to continuously improve by controlling traffic, securing parking lots, and expanding shuttle bus operations to ensure tourists’ convenience.
The Okjeongho Suspension Bridge is closed every Monday, and shuttle buses from Woonam Special Zone to Yosan Park operate on weekends.
County Governor Shim Min said, “For over the past 10 years, we have worked tirelessly with the goal of realizing the Seomjin River Renaissance and making Okjeongho the best ecological tourist destination nationwide,” adding, “Starting with the opening of the suspension bridge and Bungeo Island, we will complete the Seomjin River Renaissance and achieve ten million tourists in Imsil.”
