Gokseong-gun Baeksemi Achieves First Export to Australia
Building a Leading Organic Rice Image Through Diversification of Overseas Markets
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 24th that Baeksemi, a high-quality organic brand rice, has opened the export route to Australia.
According to Gokseong-gun, a contract was signed to export 10 tons of Baeksemi to Sydney, Australia, and an export loading ceremony was held on the 20th at the Baeksemi mill of Seokgok Nonghyup.
The county expects that this first export to Australia will serve as a stepping stone to expand Baeksemi exports to Australia. It is also seen as an opportunity to promote the region's excellent agricultural products worldwide.
Organic Baeksemi is Gokseong's representative agricultural product, popular for its savory scorched rice aroma and chewy texture.
At Seokgok Nonghyup, all stages from contract cultivation, seedling raising, transplanting, harvesting, drying, storage, to processing are thoroughly managed.
The organic Baeksemi produced and distributed by Seokgok Nonghyup has been recognized for its quality, having been selected as one of Jeonnam's top 10 high-quality brand rices for three consecutive years since 2020. It was also selected as a star item in the Jeonnam brand section on Amazon USA in 2021.
Following exports to the U.S. through the Gokseong-gun online platform Amazon, the export route to Australia has now been opened.
Exports to European and Southeast Asian markets are currently being promoted, and it is hoped that by exporting to more countries, it will become a beacon of hope for Korean agriculture and rural communities.
A Gokseong-gun official said, “Gokseong-gun, Seokgok Nonghyup, and all farmers will work together with one heart to continue the reputation as a representative brand rice exported worldwide.”
