Democrats Decide to Return to Afternoon National Assembly Audit... "Will Not Accept Yoon's Policy Speech Tomorrow"
Boycott of Morning National Audit, Afternoon Party Meeting Held for Re-discussion
Plan to Reject Policy Speech to Be Discussed Later
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The Democratic Party of Korea held a parliamentary meeting in the afternoon and decided to return to the National Assembly audit hall, from which they had temporarily boycotted. However, they stated that they will not respond to tomorrow's presidential policy speech.
Oh Young-hwan, the Democratic Party floor spokesperson, said in a briefing immediately after the party's emergency parliamentary meeting on the 24th, "We will attend the final comprehensive National Assembly audit this afternoon," adding, "Despite the difficult livelihood crisis, we will strongly and firmly raise issues against the unfair situation where the ruling party is obsessed with political revenge investigations beyond incompetence and lawlessness, even invading the opposition party headquarters, and acts that obstruct a normal audit."
He continued, "We confirmed and condemned once again among the members that the Yoon Seok-yeol administration’s sudden search and seizure of the opposition party’s central headquarters is an act of invasion that disregards the National Assembly, suppresses the opposition, and obstructs the audit."
Regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol’s 2023 budget policy speech scheduled at the National Assembly tomorrow morning, he said, "Democratic Party members have resolved that they can never accept or tolerate the policy speech under the Yoon administration, which destroys parliamentary cooperation and shows an intention to crush the opposition," adding, "In a situation where unfair acts including abusive language against the opposition continue, the opposition can never accept even applauding the policy speech."
However, he stated that the method of expressing refusal to the policy speech will be decided through further discussion.
From around 2 p.m. today, the prosecution is conducting a search and seizure of the Democratic Research Institute inside the Yeouido Democratic Party headquarters with the presence of defense attorneys. In relation to this, the Democratic Party held a parliamentary meeting in the morning, decided on a temporary boycott of the National Assembly audit, and held a press conference in front of the Yongsan Presidential Office condemning the invasion of the Democratic Party headquarters.
