Gyeonggi-do Expands Support Targets for Low-Income Single-Parent Families
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is expanding the support target for low-income single-parent families. Those included in the target will receive support for daily necessities and education expenses.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 24th that from this month, the support target for low-income single-parent families has been expanded from '52% or less of the median income (3-person household, 2,181,245 KRW)' to '58% or less (3-person household, 2,432,927 KRW),' adding 249 households to the support target group.
The province provides low-income single-parent families with 15,000 KRW per person per month for learning materials for elementary, middle, and high school students, 50,000 KRW twice a year (during Seol and Chuseok) per household for daily necessities, and education expenses such as entrance fees and tuition for high school students.
Additionally, for grandparent-grandchild families, support is provided for high school grandchildren's childcare expenses (100,000 KRW per person per month), university entrance (registration) fees for grandchildren (up to 5 million KRW per person), and university preparation funds (2.5 million KRW per person).

Choi Young-mook, Director of the Family and Multicultural Division of the province, stated, "Due to the change in income criteria for this support project, the number of eligible households increased from 37,695 to 37,944." He added, "Those wishing to apply for the support project can inquire at the administrative welfare centers of their local eup, myeon, or dong, or the departments related to low-income single-parent families in the city or county."
