Ambassadors of UK, France, and Germany Urge Investigation into Iran's Export of Russian Drones... Iran Reacts
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] On the 22nd (local time), major foreign media reported that Iran reacted strongly after the UN ambassadors of the three countries?United Kingdom, France, and Germany (E-3)?called for an investigation into allegations that Russia attacked Ukraine using Iranian-made drones.
According to reports, Nasser Kanaani, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated regarding the E-3 ambassadors' claims, "They are false and baseless. We strongly reject them."
Earlier, Ukraine had announced that Russia used the Iranian-made drone Shahed-136 to attack its territory. The Shahed-136 is a suicide drone equipped with explosives that crashes into its target. In response, Ukraine urged the UN Secretariat to conduct an investigation related to this matter.
The UN ambassadors of the three countries also emphasized in a letter sent to the UN, "The UN Secretariat is responsible for monitoring the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231," and added, "We would welcome an investigation by the Secretariat."
Meanwhile, UN Security Council Resolution 2231 was adopted in 2015 to ensure the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA). It includes provisions banning Iran's conventional arms imports and exports until October 2020, and advanced technologies such as missiles until October 2023. The United States and others claim that Iran's drone exports violate these provisions.
