Husband, Separated but Still Married, Suddenly Attacks During Divorce Talk
Husband Arrested on Charges of First-Degree Attempted Murder, First-Degree Kidnapping, and Assault
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Sung-wook] In Washington State, USA, a woman was attacked with a weapon by her husband and buried alive. It is reported that the woman was dramatically rescued thanks to her 'smartwatch.'
According to NBC News and others on the 21st (local time), the police in the Lacey area of Thurston County received a rescue request from a woman on the afternoon of the 16th. When the caller could not speak properly and screamed during the call with the police, the police suspected that a gag was in her mouth and recognized it as an emergency situation. The police identified that the distress signal came from the caller's home and dispatched personnel.
The police who responded found the woman hiding in the home’s storage room around 1 a.m. on the 17th, screaming, "My husband is trying to kill me." At the time of discovery, the woman's neck, face, and some ankles were bound with tape, and bruises were found on other parts of her body. Additionally, her hair and clothes were covered with dirt and dust.
According to the police investigation, the woman was suddenly attacked while discussing divorce with her estranged husband. The husband tied up the woman, put her in a car, moved near their home, stabbed her in the chest with a knife, and then buried her alive. It is reported that the husband placed heavy wood on her body and told her, "You will die soon."
The reason the woman was able to contact the police was thanks to her smartwatch. Before being dragged outside, she had sent an emergency rescue request using her Apple Watch. Smartwatches like the Apple Watch send a distress signal when the side button is pressed and held.
The woman stated, "After being buried, I could hear the sound of my husband walking around the hole and the sound of dirt piling on me." She also testified, "I struggled to breathe in the shallow grave and twisted my body to brush off the dust on my face." After several hours, she managed to remove the tape binding her body, escaped, and hid in the home’s storage room.
