He called for investigations not only into allegations of illegal presidential election funds against him but also into the Busan Savings Bank scandal investigated by President Yoon Seok-yeol, as well as suspicions that the house of President Yoon’s father was purchased by the sister of Kim Man-bae, the main culprit in the Daejang-dong incident.
At a press conference held at the National Assembly that day, Lee mentioned the Daejang-dong incident, saying, "It seems they are now even resorting to fabrication. The substantive truth of the case is being distorted, and only the noisy sound of political oppression and retaliatory investigations against our party is heard," adding, "I officially request the president and the ruling party to accept a special prosecutor investigation related to Hwacheon Daeyu and the Daejang-dong development."
He stated, "The special prosecutor must comprehensively cover all the allegations raised so far," and insisted, "In addition to clarifying the facts about the Daejang-dong development and Hwacheon Daeyu, the investigation must also reveal the suspicions of fraudulent investigation into the Busan Savings Bank, which ultimately protected the seed money of corrupt forces, the allegations of false statements, and the circumstances under which Kim Man-bae’s sister purchased the president’s father’s house. It must also uncover the fabricated investigation and coaching of false testimony that arose during the sudden change in statements regarding the flow of Hwacheon Daeyu funds."
Regarding the suspicion that Kim Yong, deputy director of the Democratic Research Institute and a close aide to Lee, received illegal presidential election funds, Lee denied the allegations. He firmly denied any involvement in the Daejang-dong incident and also denied the allegations of receiving illegal presidential election funds.
Lee said, "Attacking Lee Jae-myung will not cover up the government and ruling party’s failures. Oppressing the Democratic Party will not hide the incompetence of the government and ruling party," and urged, "The president and the ruling party should accept the special prosecutor law."
